Natural Malachite:
Step into the world of timeless beauty and ancient wisdom with this Natural Malachite Bracelet. Malachite, with its mesmerizing green swirls and banded patterns, has been treasured since ancient civilizations for its striking appearance and powerful metaphysical properties Known as protection crystal. Malachite (/ˈmæl.əˌkaɪt/) is a copper carbonate hydroxide mineral with the formula Cu₂CO₃(OH)₂. This opaque, green-banded mineral crystallizes in the monoclinic crystal system and usually forms botryoidal, fibrous, or stalagmitic masses in fractures and deep underground spaces, where the water table and hydrothermal fluids cause chemical precipitation. Although individual crystals rarely form, they can appear as slender to acicular prisms. Malachite also develops as pseudomorphs, replacing more tabular or blocky azurite crystals.
History & Origin:
People mined natural malachite from deposits near the Isthmus of Suez and the Sinai as early as 4000 BCE. Miners at the Great Orme Mines in Britain extracted it 3,800 years ago using stone and bone tools. Archaeological evidence shows that they stopped mining around 600 BCE after producing up to 1,760 tonnes of copper from malachite. Evidence also reveals that people mined and smelted the mineral to obtain copper at Timna Valley in contemporary Israel for more than 3,000 years. Because of this, people have valued malachite as both an ornamental stone and a gemstone.
Natural Malachite has been used for thousands of years as a protective and healing stone. For instance, ancient Egyptians carved it into amulets and jewelry, believing it warded off evil and brought prosperity. Similarly, in the Middle Ages, it was worn for protection against negative energies . Today, in fact, major deposits of high-quality Malachite are found in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Brazil, Russia, Zambia, and Australia, thus making it one of the most recognized green gemstones in the world.
