Natural Hematite (Sang-e-Hadid):

Natural Hematite, also spelled as haematite, is a common iron oxide compound with the formula Fe2O3 and is widely found in rocks and soils. Hematite crystals belong to the rhombohedral lattice system which is designated the alpha polymorph of Fe2O

Hematite is a natural iron-rich mineral that occurs in several colors, including black, steel-gray, silver-gray, reddish-brown, and deep red. Because it contains a high amount of iron, miners extract hematite as one of the world’s most important iron ores.

Interestingly, hematite can conduct electricity, which makes it different from many other gemstones and minerals. It also appears in several forms, such as Kidney Ore, Iron Rose, Martite, and Specular Hematite. Although these varieties look different, they all produce a distinctive reddish-brown streak when rubbed on an unglazed surface.

In addition, hematite is harder than pure iron. However, it is also more brittle, meaning it can crack or break more easily under strong impact.

The name “Hematite” comes from the Greek word “haima,” which means “blood.” This name refers to the red color seen in many hematite specimens and in the red streak the mineral leaves behind. For centuries, people have also used hematite as a natural red pigment in paints and decorative materials.
